On Saturday, May 17, 2008 the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park will sponsor a 1967-style Presidential barbecue on the banks of the Pedernales River near the Texas White House.

Stonewall, TX –Sponsored by the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park, the LBJ Ranch will come alive with a historical recreation of the barbecue President and Mrs. Johnson hosted on the LBJ Ranch for members of the Organization of American States. Park gates open at 3 PM with exhibits and special tours leading up to a social hour at 4 PM. The social hour will include beer, wine, hors d'oeuvers and a welcoming by LBJ Library Actor Michael Stuart portraying President Johnson. The guests will be entertained with live western music leading up to a Texas heritage show provided by the Fort Griffin Fandangle starting at 5:30 PM. The Fandangle is described on their website as "an outdoor musical based on the pioneer chronicles of West Texas." "Spectacle-a-plenty of cowboys driving a trail herd; of a stagecoach chased by Indians; of buffalo hunters & gamblers at old Fort Griffin." Following the Fandangle everyone will dine on a meal of barbecue beef and chicken, ranch beans, potato salad, and slaw as provided the 1967 guests. The location in the Live Oak grove next to the Pedernales River should prove a magical evening. After dinner guests will be welcome to continue to enjoy the music, special exhibits, and special tours of the LBJ Ranch as the sun sets on this very special event. The Friends of the LBJ National Historical Park will use the funds raised for this event to help provide future park activities and educational opportunities to the public free of charge.
