Sat, Jan 26, "Menage a Trois" Exhibition Opens at Watson Studio Gallery: The exhibition will show 60 images by 20 photographic and digital artists from Texas, the USA, Canada and Hungary. A menage a trois is the French term describing a domestic arrangement in which three people share a relationship. The French phrase literally translates as "household of three". In keeping with this theme, artists submitted three images or digital works that share some kind of relationship - be it location, color, theme, subject, etc. Selected threesomes will be displayed together in the show. The exhibition will open on Saturday, Jan. 26th with a public and artists reception from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Visitors will have a chance to meet the artists in attendance (including the visiting photographer from Hungary). All images entered in the juried show will cycle through on the ArtPOD, a flat-screen HDTV in the gallery. The exhibition will run until April 13, 2008. Let’s Talk About BEEF – HCCW Seeking Candidates for the Texas Beef Ambassador Speech Competition: The chance to compete for $3,000 and the title of Texas Beef Ambassador is in store for the 2008 Texas Beef Ambassador Competition, March 15, 2008, in Corpus Christi. Hill Country CattleWomen is seeking candidates to represent our area in the state competition. Open to all youth between the ages of 17 to 20, but not over 20 as of Jan. 1, 2009, contestants are asked to deliver a five to eight minute speech pertaining to the positive aspects of beef consumption and the beef industry to promote the nutritional, economic, environmental and versatile uses of beef. Resource materials for the speech are available. Top winners will receive prize money, while the first place winner will also represent the state at various speaking engagements during the year and at the National Contest held in the fall of 2008. Hill Country contestants will represent our area at various Hill Country events throughout the year. The deadline to enter is February 1, 2008. We still need volunteers to help staff the office and assist visitors. We also need volunteers to assist the Chamber Directors with a variety of projects. U.S. Bureau of the Census: More than 4 million American businesses, including 130 businesses in Blanco County, will receive 2007 Economic Census forms. Businesses that do not receive a form (typically very small) are not required to do anything, but those businesses that receive a form are required by law (Title 13, U.S. Code) to complete and return it. The due date is February 12, 2008.
